SPOKANE VALLEY -- Some residents of the Ponderosa are being allowed to return to their homes after being evacuated on Thursday night, but authorities warn that they could be re-evacuated.

Around noon officials began to allow residents to returnt to their homes with the requirement that they show identification.

Later, so many residents flooded the area that authorities lifted the identification requirement.

On Thursday the Red Cross opened shelters for the hundreds of people told to evacuate their homes when the Valley View wildfire started and quickly got out of control.

That fire burned 1,200 acres and burned 13 homes.

More than 130 people filled Univesity High School when they were forced out of their homes by the Valley View wildfire.

The Red Cross shelter at University High School took in 136 people, providing food, water and a place to sleep for them.
