MEDICAL LAKE -- A 21-year-old man killed when his pickup rolled northwest of Medical Lake Wednesday was a firefighter from Western Washington.

Ryan L. Eley died shortly before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday when he rolled his 1994 Dodge pickup as he negotiated a curve on Chase Road.

Detective Ken Salas said Thursday morning that Eley was almost completely ejected from the truck as it rolled. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

A passerby reported the crash about 3:30 p.m., but it is unknown when the incident occurred.

Police say the area is sparsely populated and the intersection, Ladd and Chase Roads, is surfaced with gravel only.

The investigation continues.
