Hundreds honor a local soldier being laid to rest

SPOKANE -- Hundreds of people gathered Saturday to remember and honor a fallen Spokane soldier.
24 year old Army Staff Sgt. Chad Caldwell was killed while serving our country in Iraq last week.
He's now the 120th service member from Washington state to die in the war.
Saturday a memorial service was held. His family says Chad lived everyday like it was his last.
And becasue of that fearlessness, over three tours of duty he won two medals. One for saving a pregnant woman from the bombings at the Baghdad UN and another for saving on of his own leaders.
His family went on to remind us that although Chad hated war, he saw the difference he was making.

The funeral for Staff Sergeant Chad Caldwell will be on Saturday afternoon.
24-year-old Staff Sergeant Chad Caldwell died April 30th from wounds suffered when an explosive device went off in Mosul.
He was supposed to be on leave in a few weeks to be with his wife and two young sons
"I tell them their dad is in heaven," says Raechel Caldwell, Chad's widow. "And that he loved them more than life itself.
Caldwell graduated from Cheney High School. His family now lives in Spokane.
He recently re-enlisted in the Army and was serving his third tour in Iraq.
His body arrived home Friday.
Caldwell's funeral is set for 2 p.m. at Hazen-Jaeger Funeral Home in North Spokane with his burial to follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
