With the assistance of Airway Heights Police officers, the suspect was arrested by sheriff’s deputies about 7:45 p.m. and was later booked into Spokane County Juvenile Detention on a felony count of Drive-By Shooting.
The incident began about 7:30 p.m. when a female motorist on Trails Road said the suspect passed her car and fired a pistol out his window at nearby trees.
Deputies later determined that the youth was angry that the woman had not accelerated fast enough where the speed limit increases from 35 to 45 mph, and had fired the pistol as an expression of his irritation.
The female witness followed the suspect and remained on the phone to 9-1-1 until he was stopped and arrested at Hayford and Sprague north of Airway Heights.
Deputies spent more than an hour retracing the suspect’s route to ensure that no one had been hit or injured by the shots fired.
