20-year-old Justin Crenshaw is charged with killing two people in North Spokane.
Aggravating circumstances in Washington state are necessary in cases where prosecutors pursue either the death penalty or life sentences.
County prosecutors now have 30 days to decide whether to pursue the death penalty for Justin W. Crenshaw who is charged with killing Tanner Pehl and Sarah Clark inside a home just north of the Division Y and then setting the house on fire.
The county prosecutor’s office has never pursued the death penalty for a defendant under the tenure of Prosecutor Steve Tucker who has occupied his office for nearly a decade.
Crenshaw had just moved to Spokane from Las Vegas prior to the killings and had only known Pehl and Clark a short time.
Investigators say Crenshaw used a cutting instrument to kill both vicims, according to investigators.
