Peter Nelso (left) and Alfredo Renteria (center) were each sentenced to eight months for felony dog fighting.
Superior Court Judge Tari Eitzen sentenced Peter Nelson and Alfredo Renteria to eight months in jail each for felony dog fighting.
They each received 90 days suspended for operating an illegal kennel. Eitzen also gave Nelson and Renteria each 24 months probation.
The men will serve their time at either Geiger Correctional Facility or the Spokane County Jail.
During their probation they are forbidden from associating with each other and have to submit to random drug testing.
Spokane County Regional Protection Services (SCRAPS) still has custody of the dogs. The agency has already spent $19,000 in care for the animals and is seeking reimbursement.
A hearing about the dogs' future will be determined at a later date.
