SPOKANE -- A bit of a calmer commute for people in some parts of the Inland Northwest. Just a trace of measurable snow fell overnight in Spokane. But, it's by no means a smooth ride yet.

More snow is expected today, with an inch or two of accumulation possible. There's a chance for some flurries this weekend as well.

Friday, there were still reports of drifting and blowing snow, especially in Northern Idaho, where the blowing snow was actually blamed for some school closures.

Despite around-the-clock plowing efforts, roads are still covered from two major winter storms to hit the Inland Northwest. The latest officially dumped 6.8 inches of snow at Spokane International Airport.

However, areas on the Palouse received much more-- including an unofficial report of 17 inches in Deary, ID.

However, as temperatures start to rise above freezing there's a new concern: urban flooding. Several low-lying intersections across the city were covered by standing water.

The City of Spokane has dozens of snow plows and graders working to clear the streets, according to Mayor Mary Verner.

Verner held a news conference Thursday evening to praise city residents and street crews for their patience and hard work this week.

Officially, last month will go down as the fourth snowiest January in Spokane history. More than 40 inches fell at the airport. The total for the season so far is 63 inches.
