Police search for a suspect involved in a high speed chase in East Spokane.

Police conducted a brief search of the neighborhood, but then most of the officers left the scene by 6:40 a.m. A few officers are still looking for the suspect, described as a 5'8" white man with a thin build and a buzz cut.

Just before the suspect stopped the car, early reports from police dispatchers said the suspect was going 60 mph along 2nd Ave. heading westbound Altamont.

The pursuit only lasted a few minutes before the suspect pulled over. The suspect's car kept rolling after he bailed and hit a parked car. Neither car suffered damage.

Police started the chase because the car the suspect was driving was stolen. Police say a man was standing a few feet away from his car while it warmed up this morning when the suspect rode by on a bike, jumped into the man's car and drove off.

The suspect drove the man's 1992 Honda Accord so hard and fast during the chase that the engine is now blown.
