Gas prices plummet below $2.88 nationwide

SPOKANE—Oil is less than half the price it was this summer. The average cost of unleaded fuel is now $2.69.

AAA says gas in Spokane is about $2.88. That’s 21 cents cheaper than this time last year.

No one doubts that lower prices are putting extra dollars into their pockets. However drivers tell KREM 2 News their going to remain cautions because prices could rise again.

Economists say gas prices are dropping because of lower demand for oil in the U.S. and around the world due to the weaker economy.

AAA reports the cheapest gas in the U.S. can be found in Oklahoma. Gas there is about $2.18.

The most expensive gas is still $3.61 in Hawaii.
