SPOKANE – Officials at the Spokane International Airport said they will have to spend more money this year on the cost of de-icer.
KREM 2
The cost of de-icer will cost Spokane International Airport an additional $115,000 compared to last year.
Last year the airport spent $700,000 on the de-icer. That figure is expected to climb by another $115,000.
The particular de-icer used on runways is in short supply across the country.
Potassium acetate is in short supply. It is mined in Canada, but a worker’s strike there has curtailed the production of the substance.
Fortunately for Spokane, the airport still has a large supply of potassium acetate in stock.
