POST FALLS, Idaho -- The FBI is investigating a Post Falls assault case that's being labeled a hate crime.
It happened early Monday morning when 15-year-old Rai Franklin woke up to hear dogs barking outside her family's home on Powderhorn Street. She says she went outside to find two men.
"The guys egged my parents car and put fliers up saying not nice things about black people. 'F' black people, you just go die or we'll help you. You don't belong here," Franklin told KREM 2's Erik Hedlund.
However, Franklin didn't run inside and tell her parents or go call 911. She says if she did, the suspects might have gotten away.
"I flung the door open, ran after them and grabbed one guy. I didn't get to see his face cause he ran at me and hit me in the eye."
Post Falls Police and the FBI both told us there have not been many hate crimes in North Idaho in recent years. Hate crimes are a federal offense.
