PONDERAY, Idaho -- KREM 2 News has obtained dashboard camera video of a gunfight between police and Bonner Co. Sheriff's deputies and a robbery suspect north of Sandpoint, Idaho in July.
The video shows 49-year-old Mark Betts leading officers on a high-speed chase from a liquor store in Ponderay to Colburn Culver Road on July 7th.
The chase ended when Betts rammed a police car and fired a pistol at officers. One of the bullets passed through the uniform of a deputy, who was not hurt. Police returned fire, killing Betts inside his SUV.
Last week, Bonner County prosecutors ruled the shooting justified and announced charges would not be filed against the officers.
Surveillance video from the state-run liquor store at the Bonner Mall showed Betts grabbing bottles off shelves and then bolting toward the door. A clerk tried to stop Betts, who then pulled out a wooden club and threatened the employee. Ponderay Police officers spotted Betts driving out of the parking lot and gave chase.
The investigation into the shooting was conducted by the Idaho State Police.
