Duncan sentenced to six life sentences in federal court

BOISE - Convicted killer Joseph Duncan speNT Monday being sentenced on a litany of charges related to the devastation he brought on a North Idaho family in 2005.

Duncan first faced a judge via video-conference to be sentenced on state charges. The judge, located in Coeur d'Alene, handed down three life sentenced for the murders of Brenda Groene, Slade Groene and Mark McKenzie. Those sentences are fixed and will be served concurrently.
Later he was sentenced for seven more charges - including three additional life sentence for kidnapping and two counts of aggravated sexual abuse.
He was also sentenced to ten years each on four additional miscellaneous counts.
All together, Duncan has been sentenced to death, six life sentences and an additional 40 years in prison.
He could still face charges in California on separate crimes he is accused of.
"Your crimes exceeded all bounds of human decency and has left society in a state of shock," Federal Judge Edward Lodge said. "You must now pay the price with your own life."
After the sentencing, several jurors from his death penalty case hugged Steve Groene, father of Shasta and Dylan Groene.
