06:23 PM PDT on Monday, October 27, 2008
COEUR D'ALENE -- A former Coeur d'Alene Police officer is suing the department for not paying he-- and other officers-- overtime.
Sgt. Coby Langley filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court Friday afternoon, naming the Coeur d'Alene Police Department and the City of Coeur d'Alene as defendants.
Langley specifically references unpaid overtime hours while he traveled to and attended a polygraph school. Langley says the city's failure to pay time-and-a-half for overtime hours violates federal labor laws.
No specific dollar amount is listed in the lawsuit. Langley is requesting payroll records from the police department to determine the city's liability.
According to Langley's attorney, he is no longer employed by the Coeur d'Alene Police Department. However, the circumstances regarding his departure have not been released.
