UPDATE> Flames nearing 50 homes outside Omak

NEAR OMAK, WA -- Crews have have knocked back a wildfire burning in heavy brush and timber near Omak to 1,000 acres, but it's still threatening 50 homes.

At midday Friday, the Green Lake Fire was moving closer to homes along Green Lake Road, six miles southwest of town.

The fire was estimated to be 1,800 acres Friday morning..

Fire Information Officer Chuck Johnson said all available Department of Natural Resources crews and equipment in the area are either on, or headed to the fire lines.

Crews have the fire 10 percent contained, but say anything could happen when winds pick up later on Friday.

Flames from the Green Lake Fire creep closer to a home near Omak, WA.

The fire is burning in steep and rocky terrain.

Winds pushed the fire from the Pogue Mountain area towards at least six homes on the east side of Green Lakes Road. Structure protection crews worked to stop the fire before it gets closer to those homes.
