Weekend 2 Do: Sept. 9-11

Summer has unofficially come to an end. The kids are back at school and they could use something fun to do this weekend. Well luckily there are some great events happening this weekend! We scoured the internet and here’s what we found.

Spokane County Fair Sept. 9-18

While this is a week-long event, there are some cool things happening this weekend! On Friday, the PRCA Rodeo kicks off at 7:00 p.m. and goes again Saturday. Tickets are just $7. Then Saturday and Sunday, there’s Free Style Moto X. There are some new awesome events at the fair this year. Haai Inc. is bringing live sharks to fair-goers! They will have shows on the North Lawn typically at 12:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m., and 9:00 p.m. daily throughout the fair. They will show off the sharks while teaching shark safety and conservation. Another bonus, on Friday night the Man Shop is hosting beard day. All bearded people get half price admission for all bearded people after 6:00 p.m. There will be a beard contest and an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for Longest Beard Chain. Play for Gracie D’Lish Day: Sept. 9

Go pick out an amazing burger for an even better cause. The burger joint is hosting a fundraiser for the Play Gracie Foundation, which offers sports scholarship to families in need. Gracie Snider, 10, was killed in a crash on her way home from a soccer tournament back on May 3, 2014. If you’d like to donate, visit the foundation’s website.

FETCH: SCRAPS Amazing Race: Sept. 10 at 10:00 a.m.

Fetch prizes for you and your pet through Riverfront Park. You’ll track down clues and sniff out detours throughout Riverfront Park. Each pit stop features a different challenge such as Outreach Organization, Pet-ardy, What to Do with Dog Doo and more.  Once you finish your challenge, you’re off to the next location and more fun and prizes. Registration is $10 per person or $20 per pack. The event will help fund the SCRAPS Hope Foundation.

For the Love of Spock: Sept. 10

The famous sci-fi series Star Trek turned 50 this week. So the Garland Theater is celebrating with a screening of “For the Love of Spock” documentary this weekend. The film honors the late Leonard Nimoy. One dollar from each ticket sold is being donated to the local nonprofit Operation Dog Tag, which trains and provides service dogs to veterans at no cost to them. Attendees are also strongly encouraged to attend in costume. The screening starts at 10:30 a.m. and tickets are just $7.

Restaurant Wars: Sept. 10

Spokane has so many amazing restaurants. This event will help highlight some of the most amazing food sold right here in the Inland Northwest. The event will be held in Kendall Yards and is free to attend but for just over $18 you can sample foods from eight different restaurants. There will also be live music, chef demos and a farmer’s market atmosphere.
