Squirrel leaves thousands without power in Spokane Valley

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- Thousands of Avista customers in Spokane Valley were out of power at around 7:00 a.m. thanks to a squirrel, according to the Avista Facebook page.

2,359 customers lost power for just under an hour due to an outage near the intersection of 8th Ave. and Bettman Road. An Avista representative said squirrel caused power outages are common this time of year. 

Power has been restored in the area.

National Weather Service has issued several extreme weather warnings that are in effect in the area. 

Wind Advisory is in effect until 8:00 p.m. for the following areas:

 

  • Northern Panhandle
  • Coeur d 'Alene Area
  • Spokane Area
  • Northeast Mountains
  • Okanogan Valley
  • Waterville Plateau

 

A Blowing Dust Advisory is in effect until 8:00 p.m. in the following areas:

 

  • Moses Lake Area
  • Upper Columbia Basin

 

A Hazardous Weather Outlook Warning is in effect until 8:00 p.m. in the following areas:

 

  • Northern Panhandle
  • Coeur d 'Alene Area
  • Moses Lake Area
  • Upper Columbia Basin
  • Spokane Area
  • Northeast Mountains
  • Okanogan Highlands
  • Wenatchee Area
  • East Slopes Northern Cascades
