SPOKANE, Wash. -- One suspect was taken into custody following an early morning officer-involved shooting near Monroe Street and Maxwell Avenue.

Just after 2:30 a.m. on Monday, Spokane Police officers located a vehicle they had been attempting to locate for a few weeks. The driver of the vehicle was wanted out of Reno, Nevada for a felony possession of a firearm and shooting into a vehicle.

Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect fled. SPD initiated a pursuit and within less than a minute, the suspect crashed into a tree.

Both the suspect and a passenger fled on foot.

SPD Chief Craig Meidl said at least one shot was fired by an officer, which hit the suspect. The suspect suffered a wound to the arm and is expected to be released from the hospital Monday afternoon.

Police are searching for the passenger in the vehicle after he fled.

Officers found several guns around the vehicle.

Monroe Street between Maxwell Avenue and Sharpe Avenue is closed and will remain blocked off for several hours as law enforcement continues to investigate. Per standard protocol, another agency will take over the investigation due to the involvement of Spokane Police officers. The Washington State Patrol will lead the investigation.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this story said the suspect suffered wounds to the torso.
