Spokane named best place to retire in the West

SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane was named the best place to retire in the West, according to Time’s “The Ultimate Guide to Retirement.”

Spokane was acknowledged for its services, activities and tax-friendly climate.

One of the largest benefits to retiring in Spokane is the absence of a state income or inheritance tax, according to the article.

“Housing is affordable, with median home prices around $150,000 and below-average property tax rates, which help offset the relatively high local sales tax of 8.7%,” Sarah Max wrote.

Access to health care is noted as a plus, too. The article noted that the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine at Washington State University will soon welcome its first class, which will contribute to the regional hub that includes Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center and Children’s Hospital, the VA Medical Center and Community Health Association of Spokane.

Spokane was also praised for its outdoor recreation, learning opportunities at local universities and new neighborhoods, like Kendall Yards.

There was only one downfall, according to the article. “At four hours east of Seattle, Spokane can feel somewhat remote,” it states.

We don’t think that! We love our city!
