Spokane man facing 12 counts of child porn

KREM 2's Lindsay Nadrich spoke to the sheriff's office about the issue and found child pornography is more common than any of us would like to think.

SPOKANE, Wash. - A Spokane man is behind bars Monday, facing 12 charges for child pornography. Deputies arrested Joseph Glenn last week after a tip from an organization dedicated to helping exploited children.

“To see the abuse that goes on, it is just horrific,” explained Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Gregory.

The video and images of child pornography law enforcement uncover are hard to even comprehend. Unfortunately though, it is something that is all too prevalent in our society where you can find anything online.

“Well, unfortunately, it is a lot more common than it should be,” Gregory said.

Both the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Program work daily to combat the issue. Since starting a cyber tip line in 1998, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has received more than 12.7 million reports of suspected child exploitation.

Just last week, it was a tip from the organizations that lead deputies to Spokane man Joseph Glenn. Deputies say they found more than 500 explicit images of young girls between the ages of five and 13-years-old that had been uploaded to an online account.

Once an image of a child is uploaded online, that child can be victimized repeatedly because the image or video can be viewed dozens of times by people all over the world. Deputies explained that just like a video can go viral, so can images of child pornography.

“The internet allows people to file share and send these pictures, and that is what a lot of times these are, somebody takes pictures of a child being abused and then it turns around and gets up on the internet and then it's spread all over the world,” Gregory explained.

Glenn is now facing 12 charges for possession of depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Deputies still need to search electronics found in Glenn's home, so more charges for child pornography could be coming.
