Skyfest is back after 3 years and has many performers

KREM 2's Jane McCarthy and Mark Hanrahan look into the different performers that will be at Skyfest.

SPOKANE, Wash --- Skyfest is back after three years and they are bringing the Thunderbirds.

The act we are most familiar with and perhaps draws the biggest crowds is the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds. The squadron flies F-16 Fighting Falcons, also called the Viper by many of its pilots and crews.

The Thunderbirds are strictly a demonstration crew that performs all over the world and helps the Air Force recruit. You have no doubt seen the F-16 in a lot of movies, because it is the combat jet the Air Force uses in missions all over the world.

Another Air Force group you will see this weekend is the Wings of Blue Parachute Team. The academy trains skydivers for the Air Force, but also has a team that travels the world doing cool demonstrations, like what they will do at Skyfest.

There will be a number of non-military groups doing acrobatic and daredevil stunts from the air. One of them is called ‘Third Strike Wingwalking,’ and you will see a woman dangling from the wings of a plane when they perform.

The stuff in the air is pretty cool to watch, but if you want to get a closer look at some of these planes, you can do that too. There will be so many planes to see that it would take too long to list them here. From the F-16 to the backbone of Fairchild Air Force Base, the KC-135 refueling tanker and even a couple of military helicopters.
