SPOKANE, Wash.— A proposal by the city of Spokane could make parking downtown harder to find.
City leaders proposed to phase-out parking lots in downtown Spokane and replace them with new businesses.
Reports said parking lots cover over 300 acres of land downtown and the change would mean a new look would be in store for Spokane’s landscape.
Spokane would not be alone in the debate about the possibility of getting rid of downtown parking lots.
Seattle and Philadelphia replaced many of their downtown lots with businesses.
It has been more than 10 years since the last permanent parking lot was added, according to reports.
City officials said that part of the proposal was that the construction of parking garages would be strongly encouraged.
