Possible funnel cloud spotted near Mica Peak

KREM 2's Tom Sherry explains a funnel cloud spotted over Mica Peak in the Spokane Valley on Oct. 5, 2016.

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. --- KREM 2 News has been tracking multiple reports of a possible funnel cloud near Mica Peak.

KREM 2 Meteorologist Tom Sherry says this is most likely a cold air funnel and is very weak. He said it is common for these to form in the fall after a cold front moves through.

Sometimes funnel clouds will touch down and become a very weak tornado. It that case, it could cause damage but not much. In order to form a real tornado, you need moisture and warm air.
