Woman, two dogs found dead in Spokane Valley house fire had been shot

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Wednesday the identity of one of the victims in Tuesday morning's house fire.

Joy Kihara, 67, was identified as the women who was found in the house fire on North Sipple Road and East Indiana Avenue. Her cause of death was determined as a gunshot wound to the head in a homicidal manner.

The second body found in the home has not been identified. Authorities are still investigating the incident.

Investigators also found two dogs inside the residence, and said they believed the animals died by gunshot.

Investigators said they do not believe there is any known threat or danger to the community stemming from the incident. They said the investigation is now a homicide investigation.
