AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. --- The Northern Quest Resort and Casino is working to independently test the water quality after news broke Tuesday of water contamination in Airway Heights.
Preliminary groundwater sampling results for two water wells indicate high levels of two different acids (PFOS and PFOA). The acids are classified by the EPA as emerging contaminants and are present in common household items and heat and fire resistant products, including aqueous film forming foam formulations that were used by the Air Force in fire trucks from 1970-2016 including those at Fairchild AFB.
Northern Quest representatives said they were providing all guests and staff with bottled water.
Julie Holland, the director of public relations for the Kalispel Tribe, said they had to close two restaurants on Tuesday night, but reopened all of them Wednesday. Holland said in a release they threw away all the food that may have been washed with tap water and are making sure everything is cooked and washed with bottled water.
Holland said the Resort and Casino were impacted, as well as both of the Kalispel Chevron fuel stations.
