New phone app lets you ID plants with a picture

KREM 2's Jane McCarthy checks out a new app on her phone that lets people take a picture of a plant and it identifies it.

SPOKANE, Wash --- A new app is available that lets you take a picture of a plant and it will identify the plant for you, it is called “PlantSnap.”

PlantSnap is a mobile app that can currently recognize 71,000 species of plants and trees. This covers most of the species you will encounter in North America and Europe.

If you live outside of that area PlantSnap will still recognize many plants or trees that are around you.

If it does not recognize a plant or misidentifies it you can correct it so it will learn more plants.

You can find the app in Google Play or the App Store.
