Local family's van stolen, involved in police pursuit

Owners of stolen van speak out

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Kevin and Amy Vogel said they cannot believe their car was stolen, involved in a police chase and crashed in under 24 hours.

The Vogel family said they were at home putting their kids to bed when their van was taken from their driveway in Spokane.

“My van was gone,” said Kevin Vogel.

The Vogel’s said their van was not the only stolen property used in the incident.

Inside the van was Kevin’s wallet and all the equipment form his yard business.

“Ours was the lucky pot of gold for these thieves,” said Vogel.

It was not until the next morning that the Vogel’s realized the car was gone and charges had been made on their credit cards at a Super 1 in Post Falls. With the help of surveillance video from the store, Post Falls police spotted the stolen van and attempted to pull it over.

The suspects, Amber and Adolfo Vazquez, then led deputies on a pursuit into Washington.

While attempting to pull the suspects over, Kevin’s tools were thrown at police and deputies.

“My weed eater, my blower, my mower wasn’t thrown out it couldn’t fit,” said Kevin.

In a police report, authorities said they had to swerve and could have been killed.

Shortly after exiting onto Pines Street, the suspects crashed the car.

Deputies said the Vazquez’s tried to run from the scene. A K9 unit took down Adolfo and deputies caught Amber. Both were arrested on multiple felony charges.

“Thank goodness nobody has been hurt,” said Vogel.

This incident is not the first time that Amber has been arrested in connection to vehicle theft. Spokane County deputies arrested her in July. Officials said Amber was driving a stolen truck and was sitting on a cluster of stolen keys.
