Home sales skyrocket in Spokane Co.

Spokane County home sales break record in June

SPOKANE, Wash.-- Inland Northwest residents already knew this is a great place to live and the word has gotten out.

This June, Spokane county hit an all-time record with 944 homes sold.  The new record shatters the June 2005 record of 871 homes. The average price of a home in Spokane county also rose to $233,756, up 7.6 percent from 2016.

KREM 2 Morning Show Executive Producer, Erin Robinson, is among the new homeowners this summer.

"It's really exciting," said Robinson. "Honestly, if you'd asked me two months ago, if I thought I was going to be a home owner I probably would have said no.  But, I'm excited!"

Robinson's realtor with Windermere Real Estate Laurie Ross, said increased interest in the area coupled with a 10 percent decrease in inventory has made for a booming housing market this year.

"Right now, we're in what's called a seller's market," said Ross. "There's not enough inventory, and there's a lot of buyers.  So, it's a little bit of a race to the house.  I don't see any signs of it slowing down."

Robinson said she felt the stiff competition among other prospective home buyers.

"It was crazy, because when I was first looking for places and was sending Laurie all of these listings, she'd say, 'Oh that's a great house, but an offer just got put on it.' Or, 'It's pending.' It happened like four or five times," Robinson said.

Despite the increased competition among buyers, it remains much less cutthroat than other booming cities like Seattle.  Still, Ross advised that prospective home buyers be ready to jump when they find the right house.

"You need to be prequalified," she added. "You need to be ready to go.  And you need to be ready to make a decision, which is hard because we all like to sleep on something that's a big decision.  And you don't really get the opportunity to do that in this market."
