Help local businesses during construction by using #RDowntownSpokane

Downtown challenge to support businesses

SPOKANE, Wash. -- R Downtown was a collaboration effort by both the Spokane Association of Realtors and the Downtown Spokane Partnership to help businesses that were struggling while construction is being completed.

“Tamarack, we designed to be an event venue. So, that has been our saving grace through the construction,” said Teresa Gonder, owner of Tamarack Public House.  “We’re not relying 100 percent on walk in traffic, but the reality is we have staffing, we are a restaurant, we are a pub, that we have to have customers in here continuously just to cover overhead to take care of our staff.”

Gonder said she has an idea of why the construction is important. When Gonder and her husband, Leo, first took ownership of the building, they said it needed lots of restoration.

During that project, she said they noticed undocumented pipes running through the roads.

Every week, a local company or association will be challenged. The first week of the challenge started with the Spokane Association of Realtors. They accepted the challenge to visit businesses along Lincoln Street and Monroe Street throughout the week.

The Spokane Realtors Association then challenged the Home Builders Association. HBA will complete the challenge this week.

If you would like to show support for local businesses while construction is still being completed, use the hashtag #RDowntownSpokane.

When you visit a store or restaurant downtown, use the hashtag, post a picture of the place you’re visiting or your meal, then post it to all social media sites.
