Garth Brooks hosts basketball camp for kids

SPOKANE, WASH. – Country music star, Garth Brooks hosted a basketball camp for underprivileged youth in partnership with Gonzaga Men's Basketball. Garth's Foundation, Teammates for Kids, is hosted in every city where he performs.

80 children from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Spokane County, Big Brothers and Sisters of the Inland Northwest, and Spokane Cares had the opportunity to shoot hoops and hear from both Garth Brooks and Gonzaga Men's Basketball coach Mark Few.

"You gotta love yourself, think about what that means. That means doing what is right," Garth Brooks shared with the kids.

"We are all born with that true heart and that is what you see coming out in athletics. That is why I love athletics and children," said Garth Brooks.

Mark Few talked to the kids about what it means to play like a Zag. He shared what he expects his players to have, an attitude of gratitude.

"We are talking about courage, we are talking about respect and love. It is just so cool how that is the message being sent out here," Coach Few said.

Brooks explained how much the kids look up to the Gonzaga basketball players, "As much as we want them to listen to us, they listen to those ball players like crazy," Brooks said.

Garth Brooks' foundation provides scholarships for underprivileged children to attend ProCamps, hosted by some of the biggest names in professional sports.

Teammates for Kids ran basketball drills with the kids, the performed team building exercises, but most importantly they spoke about their future.
