Woman found in Spokane River identified

Body found in Spokane River

SPOKANE, Wash. – The woman whose body was found in the Spokane River on Friday has been identified. 

The Spokane County Medical Examiner identified the woman as 44-year-old Selena Rose McGivern. The Medical Examiner said McGivern died of suicide by drowning and blunt force injuries.

PREVIOUS:

The Spokane Police Department Major Crimes Taskforce responded to the area of West Pacific Avenue and North Elm Street to reports of a nude body found face down in the Spokane River.

Officials said the woman is deceased. Officials said they do not know how the body ended up in the river. 

 

The report came in around 9:00 a.m. by homeowners in the area. Officials said the body was found 15 feet away from shore. The body was recovered from the water around 10:30a.m. 

Spokane Police said the body had not been in the water very long. 

Investigators said it is extremely early in the investigation. The Medical Examiner is on route to the scene.
