SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane city leaders will decide the future of the old Riverfront Park rides on Thursday.
The original plan for the removal of all rides, except for the carousel and gondola, has been in place for years. The committee in charge of the Riverfront Park renovation has been considering whether or not to sell the rides.
However, the committee said they have heard so many community members express their love for the rides, that they are now considering a different option. The renovation committee said they are now considering keeping three of the rides, but still removing and selling the rest.
The rides that will be kept will be determined by a few factors, including popularity and feasibility. Committee members said the rides are very old, so many parts that are required to repair them are not even being made anymore.
At this point, the committee does not have a plan for what will happen to the three rides should they choose to keep them. There is a chance they could end up back in Riverfront Park, but that will be decided by the park board after it is determined whether they can be repaired.
The vote to decide the fate of the rides will take place Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in City Hall.
