SPOKANE, Wash. – Officials with the Department of Fish and Wildlife said they received reports of a black bear on the South Hill on Friday.
Authorities said there may have been up to two bears spotted near 37th and Bernard but the animals disappeared down toward Hangman Creek through the county green belt and golf course between High Drive and Highway 195.
Fish and Wildlife leaders said there have been no problems with bears near homes or people and they will continue to monitor the situation. If they receive more reports of bears near people, they may take different action.
Officials want to remind people in the area to keep dogs on a leash and not to leave pet food or garbage out since bears at this time of the year are fattening up to prepare for winter.
