Investigators try to determine if driver in fatal crash had medical emergency

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. --  A woman is dead after crashing into several parked cars in Spokane Valley Friday afternoon. As of Friday afternoon, investigators were trying to determine if she had a medical emergency prior to the crash.

The crash happened near Sunrise Elementary school on East 24th Avenue near South Adams Road around 9:45 a.m. Adams will be closed between 24th and 22nd until about 3:00 p.m. 

Officials said it was reported that an SUV hit a parked trailer, the elderly female driver was injured and CPR was being administered. 

Fire crews arrived on scene and began life-saving efforts but officials said she was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Spokane County Sheriff's officials said based on preliminary information and statements from witnesses they believe the driver may have had a medical emergency prior to crashing into several parked cars. They want to make it clear that this has not been verified by investigators. 

No one else was injured in the incident.
