SPOKANE -- Criminally insane killer Phillip Paul is no longer bankrupt. The man, who started a four day manhunt after escaping from state custody at the Spokane County Fair, racked up up $85,000 in debt.
Paul owed money to 10 creditors. But none of them followed up. Paul's federal bankruptcy case was closed last Thursday.
In the summer of 2007, documents show Paul spent over $85,000. At the time, he was living at the Carlisle Hotel. The creditors had until October 26 to object to clearing Paul's debts.
Documents also show Paul does not have to take credit counseling courses because he has no phone or internet access at Eastern State Hospital.
Bankruptcy trustee Jack Reeves handled Paul's case. In his 32 years of experience, he says this is nothing unusual. Reeves says credit card companies typically don't pursue debt. While Paul's credit rating is likely affected, his bankruptcy and the outstanding debts are gone.
