Post Falls man fatally crushed in accident at Firebird Raceway

A 65-year-old Idaho man was crushed when a door fell on him.

EAGLE -- A Post Falls man was killed when a piece of equipment fell on him at Firebird Raceway Friday morning.

Police and paramedics were called out to the racetrack at 8:37 a.m. for a report of a traumatic injury.

Ada County Sheriff's Office spokesman Patrick Orr said the victim was crushed when a trailer door fell on top of him in the racetrack's loading area.

The Ada County Coroner identified the victim as 65-year-old Dan Barton. The cause of death was blunt force trauma.

Barton died at the scene, ACSO Sgt. Matt Steele said.

"Medical teams from Firebird Raceway started doing CPR immediately as soon as they found out about this, and then of course, fire and paramedics and also police and sheriff's office ended up arriving on that."

Firebird Raceway is currently hosting the 47th Napa Ignitor Opener, which began at 8 a.m. Barton was part of a race crew, Steele said.

The accident is under investigation.
