Lewiston driver to face charges after falling asleep at the wheel

NEZ PERCE CO., Idaho – A 25-year-old man will face charges after he fell asleep while driving and caused a rollover crash near Kodiak Lane and Lapwai Road Tuesday evening.

Nez Perce County deputies responded to the area for a report of the crash. When they arrived, they observed a red Dodge pickup that had crashed and was resting on the driver’s side of the vehicle. Lewiston medics were on scene treating the driver, who was later identified at James Pierre.

Pierre was pinned under the vehicle and refused transportation for further medical treatment by Lewiston medics. He was the only occupant in the vehicle and involved in the crash.

Pierre told deputies he was traveling to Lewiston from Lapwai when he fell asleep behind the wheel, causing him to crash.

After the investigation of the crash, Pierre will be charged with inattentive driving.
