SPOKANE, Wash. – A local Lyft driver said a passenger sliced her car seats open with a knife during a ride Friday night.
Cheryl Larson said she has been driving for both Lyft and Uber for two years and has never had anything like this happen.
“I had three gentlemen, young gentlemen, I’m assuming they’re from Gonzaga. I picked them up at Scotty’s and I took them down to the Revolver,” recounted Larson.
Larson said the passenger who sat directly behind her asked her if the car was brand new. Larson replied yes, that she just pulled the car off the lot two months ago. Larson said the passenger replied “nice car” as he began to cut up her seats.
While damage to her new car is one thing, Larson said she worries something even worse could have happened.
“If he would've been alone and I had him in the back that has me concerned because it was a very sharp obvious razor type knife and if he was a little more crazy than he proved to be by cutting up the seat for no reason he could've sliced my throat,” said Larson.
Larson said she contacted Lyft immediately about the damage, but had trouble. When she reached out to the company, she said Lyft told her they need pictures of damage before moving forward with any kind of claim.
After helping Larson send photos to the company, Lyft said “we are moving forward with the claim and will continue to be in contact with the driver. The passenger account in question has been deactivated form the Lyft platform pending further investigation.”
Larson said the entire situation has made her more cautious and she wanted to advise other local drivers to keep passengers in the front seat if possible.
