1,713-pound pumpkin squashes competition at Great Pumpkin Weigh-Off

Local growers brought their biggest hauls to Georgetown Saturday for the Great Pumpkin Weigh-Off.

Growers brought pumpkins that topped several hundred pounds, in pursuit of the largest, heaviest pumpkin.

Joel Holland won with a pumpkin weighing a whopping 1,713 pounds. Holland’s pumpkin will be scooped, scorched, and filled with Elysian pumpkin beer. It will be on display next weekend at the Great Pumpkin Beer Festival.

The weigh-off was commissioned by the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth, which encourages people around the world to grow giant pumpkins as a hobby.
