Local memorials where people can gather to remember 9/11

SPOKANE, Wash. --- This Sunday will mark 15 years since the devastating 9/11 terrorist attacks. All across Washington and Idaho are memorial sites where people can gather to reflect on that tragic day.

                Illuminating Courage – Spokane, WA

                Illuminating Courage memorial honors Washington State and North Idaho fallen heroes from post 9/11 to present who died in the line of duty.

                According to Illuminating Courage’s website the memorial represents many things like arms embracing loved ones, community support for the Gold Star families, and families holding on to their memories of the ones they lost. The benches near the statue allows people to gather together and reflect.

                9/11 World Trade Center Memorial – Kennewick, WA

                A 35-foot-tall steel beam from the World Trade Center sits near Highway 395 and Hildebrand. The monument resembles the New York City towers. Benches are placed around the monument and lights that illuminate the beams.

                9/11 Spirit of America Memorial – Cashmere, WA

                The Spirit of American Foundation’s website called the memorial an interactive and educational tribute, honoring both the victims and those who risked their lives during 9/11. The site aims to make sure all Americans never forget the events that happened on 9/11.

                The Fallen Heroes Memorial Plaza -- Coeur d’Alene, Idaho

                The memorial is linked with the 9/11 Memorial Playground in Cherry Hill Park. It features a steel artifact from the World Trade Center at one of the entrances to the memorial.

                9/11 Memorial Playground -- Coeur d’Alene, Idaho

                The firefighter and police themed park is dedicated to the victims of 9/11.  The main feature is a giant firefighter’s helmet with a slide and fireman’s pole.

                Idaho World Trade Center 9/11 Memorial – Boise, Idaho

                A 10-foot beam from the World Trade Center is the centerpiece of this memorial site in Boise. The site honors emergency responders who died during the 9/11 attack. The sculpture was completed back in 2014.
