Escaped Lewis Co. inmate found hiding in barn

LATAH CO., Idaho – An inmate who escaped from Lewis County was taken into custody by the Latah County Sheriff’s Office early Thursday morning.

Derek R. Bost was taken into custody just before 7:45 a.m. Thursday near 7th Street in Juliaetta. 

The Latah County Dispatch said the property owner at that address had discovered Bost hiding in his barn while tending to his animals. Bost told the property owner that he was not armed and wanted to surrender, according to the Latah County Sheriff's Office.

Officials said he appeared to be suffering from hypothermia and was taken to Gritman Medical Center in Moscow. 

Bost escaped from the Lewis County Jail around 12:40 p.m. Wednesday. The Lewis County Sheriff's Office had considered him armed and dangerous. 

When he was medically cleared from the hospital, he was booked into the Latah County Jail, according to officials.
