DALTON GARDENS, Idaho --  A repeat DUI offender was arrested for the seventh time Saturday night, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff.

Deputies were called to the area of Hanley Avenue and Government Way around 10:00 p.m. for a reckless driver who had reportedly almost hit several vehicles and was all over the road.

Officials located the pickup going at a high rate of speed on Rude Street. When a Sheriff’s sergeant tried to stop the vehicle, it pulled into a yard, spun around a tree and sped past the sergeant into a driveway.

Authorities said the driver, later identified at Paul Hendzel, 54, got out of his pickup and failed to comply with the sergeant’s instructions. More deputies were called to the scene and he was taken into custody without further incident.

According to officials, Hendzel was booked into the Kootenai County jail for a felony charge of excessive blood alcohol content driving under the influence. He has previously been booked into the Kootenai County Jail six times for DUI offenses since 1989.
