People enjoy outdoors in Coeur d'Alene despite smoky skies

KREM 2's Alexa Block found out that some people are still set on spending time outside.

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -- Coeur d'Alene is usually filled with people at the beach, hanging out on the lake or hiking. But the smoke is keeping most people indoors.

Murky smoke-filled air loomed over Independence Point. It halted seaplane tours, it limited cruises and left some of Coeur d'Alene's most popular outdoor spots desolate.

Linda Dockter was out with her dog Rocky as they tried to make the best of it.

"Oh, the smoky air is terrible. It's the worst it's been,” said Linda Dockter. "I'm dead set on getting my 10,000 steps every day, so I figured I'm going to get a mask and I am going to continue walking as long as I can."

Aaron Taylor and his friends were just passing through town. And they did not let the smoky skies keep them from having a picnic.

"Just sitting here in the lovely weather, it's a bit smoky but it's not too bad,” said Taylor. "It's actually a bit peaceful I think."

While the smoky haze showed few signs of clearing out some people were not letting it ruin their plans.
