One killed, two injured in crash near Spirit Lake

SPIRIT LAKE, Idaho – One person was killed in a crash near Spirit Lake Cutoff and Peregrine Road, north of Spirit Lake on Monday evening. 

The Idaho State Patrol said the crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. A green 1995 Subaru Legacy with three occupants was traveling northbound when the driver lost control and entered the southbound ditch, striking several mailboxes. Jose F. Sosa Jr, 55, and two juveniles males were in the car at the time.

The overturned vehicle stopped on its top and blocked the roadway for nearly six hours.

ISP said it is unclear who was driving the vehicle. One juvenile male was ejected from the vehicle and deceased at the scene. Only one of the juveniles was wearing a safety restraint.

Sosa was transported by air ambulance to Kootenai health and one of the juvenile males was transported by ground ambulance to Kootenai Health.

ISP said the investigation is still ongoing.
