Neighbor reacts to possible murder-suicide in Coeur d'Alene

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho --- Two bodies were found in a Coeur d’Alene apartment complex on Thursday in what police report was a murder-suicide. Friday, neighbors were still shocked that this could happen in such a quiet neighborhood.

“It was so surreal. I actually couldn’t believe that it was my friend,” said Mauri Bass, a neighbor and friend of one of the victims.

Police have not released the names of the victims yet, pending next of kin notification.

The bodies of a man and a woman were found on the bottom floor of the Falls Creek apartment building on North Julia Street, according to Coeur d’Alene Police Department’s Jared Reneau. Reneau also said the two occupants had not been seen for about a week before this and the police were called to the scene around 4:50 p.m. Thursday after reports of a bad odor coming from the apartment.

Bass said it was shocking because the victim was a good person and murders are pretty rare in the area. She described the woman who died as a young mother.

“She was very sweet. Very caring, very nurturing. She actually babysat my son,” said Bass when asked about her friend.
