Man injured in Dalton Gardens hit-and-run crash, suspect at large

DALTON GARDENS, Idaho – The suspect in a felony hit and run crash that injured a 45-year-old man on Sunday morning remains at large.

Kootenai County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of East Dalton Avenue and North 15th Street shortly after 4:15 a.m. on Sunday for an injury vehicle vs. pedestrian hit and run crash.

Rodney H. Russell was found seriously injured and laying just off the east side of the 15th Street. Deputies and medical personnel assisted Russell and found he suffered significant upper body and head trauma. Russell was transported to Kootenai Health where he is listed in critical condition.

KCSO said the investigation indicates that Russell was walking along the east shoulder of 15th Street when he was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound. The suspect vehicle continued on and did not stop or render aid to Russell.

Investigators believe the suspect vehicle is a mid to full-sized SUV or pickup based on evidence collected from the scene.

Authorities are asking the public’s help in locating the suspect vehicle. The vehicle should be damaged on the right, front corner around the passenger side headlight assembly. The vehicle was also equipped with a translucent, dark grey or “smoke” colored bug guard that will be damaged on the passenger side.

Anyone with information is asked to call KCSO at 208-446-1300 or leave an anonymous tip online at http://www.kcsheriff.com/anonymous-tip.html.
