COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – Construction has started in Coeur d’Alene on a new carousel building at the plaza by Memorial Field.
Construction is behind schedule but the carousel foundation has raised enough money to pay for it. They hope to have it completed by November.
For three decades, the carousel sat near the shore of Lake Coeur d’Alene along the old Playground Pier. However, in the 1970’s, it mysteriously disappeared.
In the ‘80s, the entire carousel appeared at an auction in Western Washington. Over the next several years, the carousel was leased out, making appearances in Canada and on the East Coast.
A local couple saw an article about the carousel in the newspaper in 2010. The next year, they purchased the original piece and brought it home.
The current home for the carousel is at the Coeur d’Alene Honda where it is in storage.
