City of Coeur d'Alene: Damage to Veterans Bell not malicious

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – New video has surfaced showing the moments the Coeur d’Alene City Veterans Bell was damaged. According to the City of Coeur d’Alene, the video shows “no malicious intent by a couple who were trying to ring the bell.

The Coeur d’Alene Police Department was able to find video showing a man and woman who appeared to be attempting to ring the bell. As they tried, the man looked underneath it for a clapper and then the bell fell to the ground and was fractured.

According to the City, due to the circumstances, they have discontinued seeking the couple as no crime has was committed.

The City’s Parks and Recreation Department is working with a local company to repair the bell in order for it to be back up for Veterans Day. 

Officials said the cost to repair the damage will be around $2,500.
