SPOKANE -- Thanksgiving travel is expected to drop nationally almost 25% this year. The largest hit being felt at the airport. And the numbers are about the same in Spokane.
Kristie Clark is like a lot of Spokane natives who are used to heading out of town. But not this year.
"They way the financial things are going, it's been nice having staycations at home," said Clark.
And that's pretty much what Rochelle Holeman is doing, packing up the family and taking a three hour drive to Omak. She plans on spending $25 at the most for gasoline. When you do the cost comparison, it makes sense. Although driving to Seattle takes about three more hours than flying, it'll save you almost $200. The savings is about the same for Portland, although the drive is six hours. The greatest savings is traveling to Montana. It takes longer to fly to Missoula and will add up to a more than $3,000 difference because the airports are small.
