SPOKANE -- The Spokane County Sheriff's Office has identified the man who died Wednesday night after his motorcycle slid into a car near the intersection of Market and Hawthorne in north Spokane County.
Authorities say 51-year-old Michael Fraser of Grapeview, WA was driving over the speed limit going southbound on Market.
At 5:15 p.m. he tried to pass another vehicle in a "no pass" zone just south of Hawthorne. Fraser lost control of his motorcycle and it tipped over onto its side.
An oncoming motorist saw the sliding motorcycle and had braked to almost a complete stop when the cycle hit the front of the car.
The motorcycle went under the front of the car, trapping Fraser beneath it, killing him almost instantly. Traffic investigators said the motorcycle had slid nearly 200 feet before crashing into the car. The driver of the car and his two children were not hurt. The driver had just picked up his kids from school.
Spokane County Sheriff's Office traffic investigators said Fraser was an associate of a Northwest motorcycle gang.
